About Us

The Christian Labour Association of Canada (CLAC) was founded in 1952 and is a national union representing over 60,000 workers in almost every sector of the economy. We represent the Christian post-secondary education sector—in fact, in early 2023, the 170-plus full-time faculty of BC’s Trinity Western University successfully petitioned to make CLAC their union of choice. In 2024, the King’s University of Alberta also chose CLAC for the professional representation they need and deserve.

CLAC is a union that was founded on Christian social principles, including the belief that people, businesses, and work communities flourish when workplace relationships are based on dignity and fairness.

In the face of intense adversity from unions that saw workplaces as war zones, our founders set out to create an alternative labour model built on principles of cooperation and mutual respect.

CLAC is committed to building better workplaces, better communities, and better lives. CLAC is an affiliated member of the World Organisation of Workers.

Our commitment to building positive workplace communities and seeking win-win solutions still guides us today.

Why choose CLAC?

We share so many values and principles and we think our commitment to a cooperative, interest-based approach at the bargaining table really fits with everything Crandall is trying to do.

Both of our organizations seek to apply our biblical and Christian worldview in our work. For CLAC this is the realm of Labour Relations and for the faculty of Crandall it is university education. But really, the living that out is the common experience and that’s why we think it’s just a very natural fit for us to help support the faculty at Crandall.

Testimonials

“I do not view our unionization as a win for faculty and a loss for the university—I see it as a win for the entire organization.”

— Holly Nelson, English Professor at Langley, BC’s Trinity Western University (TWU)

“We think all the stakeholders should have a voice in how the university runs.”

— Kevin Schut, TWU Media and Communication Professor

“The feeling is that we now have access to folks who can help us, who will answer questions, who will support us.”

— Robynne Healey, TWU History Professor
