“ SIGN UP WITH CLAC 3 Easy Steps 1. Sign a membership card – Request a membership card from a CLAC representative or organizer. Fill out, sign, and return the card to a CLAC representative or organizer. Your card is completely confidential—your employer will not find out! 2. Educate others – At least 40 percent of the volunteer firefighters in the department need to sign a membership card. With that support, CLAC can apply to the Ontario Labour Relations Board to be your union. Encourage others to participate and make an informed choice. 3. Vote yes – Once we have enough membership cards signed, the labour board will conduct a secret ballot vote for all eligible volunteer firefighters. If over 50 percent of those who cast a ballot vote in favour of CLAC representation, we become your union! I had never been a part of a union before we joined CLAC.
