YOU DESERVE THE BEST CLAC works to make your department a great place. We negotiate fair contracts, advocate for your rights, and answer the phone when you call. With over 1,200 volunteer firefighter members in Belleville, Clarence-Rockland, Hamilton, Kawartha Lakes, Midland, Quinte West, and Sudbury, CLAC is the largest and most influential union in Ontario for volunteer firefighters. CLAC also represents 60,000 workers in other industries making it the largest national, independent, multisector union in Canada. Can CLAC make a difference in the lives of volunteer firefighters? Yes. Here’s how: 1. Volunteer firefighters should be treated fairly Volunteers should not be treated to a lesser standard than full-time firefighters. CLAC has shown that professional collective bargaining on behalf of volunteer firefighters ensures that they receive fair and honest treatment from the fire departments that they serve. 2.Volunteer firefighters should have a voice It can be difficult for volunteers to speak with one voice on a municipal or provincial level about issues that matter to them. CLAC unifies volunteers and serves as their voice to decision-makers on important issues such as health and safety, WSIB and insurance coverage, and geographic jurisdiction. 3. Contributions of volunteer firefighters should be celebrated The work that volunteers do for their fellow citizens and municipalities should be recognized and celebrated. Through the elected leadership of its union locals, CLAC works to promote the vital role that volunteers play in their municipalities.
